One-day millet awareness program

Ashok Kumar, Director of Shri Ram College; and Dr. Vineet Kumar Sharma, Dean of Academics, Shri Ram College. In their addresses, the dignitaries highlighted the significance of millets as a staple food in Indian tradition and emphasized their importance in promoting a healthy lifestyle. The program began with a welcome address, followed by various sessions sharing information about millets. Speakers explained that millets are small-grained cereals rich in nutrients, containing ample amounts of protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. They are not only beneficial for health but also environmentally sustainable, as they are drought-resistant crops. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has termed them "Shree Ann" or "Nutritious Grains," reflecting their special cultural and nutritional significance in Indian tradition.

On this occasion, students also showcased various millet-based dishes and products. Students from the departments of Agriculture, Biosciences, and Home Science presented flour, snacks, and other healthy food items, highlighting innovative and entrepreneurial possibilities. These preparations were evaluated by a judging panel, and the winners were awarded.

The program concluded with a presentation of the diverse range of millet-based dishes prepared by the students. Students who excelled in various categories were awarded, with the top winners being: Dessert Category: First Place - Bhargav Arya (Gulshan Kumar, Radwa), Suvarna (Barfi); Second Place - Aayushi Tyagi, Monika Tyagi (Badu Ritu, Millet Kheer); Third Place - Nasima (Ragi Laddu). Snacks Category: First Place - Mukambika; Second Place - Aditi Mishra, Riyanshi Saini (Ragi Idli); Third Place - Aastha, Himani (Finger Millet Cutlet). Spicy Chaat Category: First Place - Aayushi, Kanchan Tyagi; Second Place - Tasmiya, Riya. Beverages Category: First Place - Prachi (Ragi Smoothie); Second Place - Anchal Kumari, Afreen (Bajra Yogurt); Third Place - Kajal Kumari. Khichdi Category: First Place - Aniket Kumar; Second Place - Preeti; Third Place - Priyanshu. Baked Items Category: First Place - Aliza Khan, Aayashi Dhiman (Millet Baked Dish); Second Place - Amirullah (Millet Chocolate Cake); Third Place - Tanya Sukralia (Ragi Cookies). The students' presentations were evaluated by a panel of experts, and the winning participants were felicitated

Various committees were formed for organizing the event, including the Guest Welcoming Committee, Organizing Committee, Registration Committee, Judging Committee, and the Evaluation and Result Declaration Committee. Faculty members and students of the college actively participated in these committees. On this occasion, it was also emphasized that increased consumption of millets is not only beneficial for individual health but also an effective step towards ensuring agricultural sustainability and national food security. Promoting millet production and consumption will also help in combating malnutrition and encouraging entrepreneurship at the rural level.

This program, organized by Shri Ram College, proved to be extremely beneficial for the students and the audience. The college management resolved to continue organizing such socially and academically important events in the future. Kapil Dhiman, Dean of External Admissions, successfully managed the program. On this occasion, Dr. R.P. Singh, Research Officer of SRGC, Dr. Mohammad Naeem, Head of the Department of Agriculture, Dr. Shweta Rathi, Dean of the Department of Home Science, Dr. Vipin Saini, Head of the Department of Biosciences, Dr. Pooja Tomar, Head of the Department of Basic Sciences, Dr. Ritu Pundir, Assistant Professor of Basic Sciences, Isha Arora, Assistant Professor of Home Science, Sajia, and the heads and faculty members of all departments of the college were present.
