Rural Youth Skill Development Program

The closing ceremony of the 25-day Rural Youth Skill Development Program, organized under the aegis of the Faculty of Agriculture and the Department of Agriculture, Government of Uttar Pradesh, was held today. The closing ceremony was inaugurated by Senior Technical Assistants Sachin Kumar and Meetu, Uttar Pradesh Government, Chief Guest Devender Chaudhary, Principal Dr. Prerna Mittal, Director of Pharmacy Dr. Girendra Gautam, Research Director Dr. R.P. Singh, Director of Engineering Dr. S.N. Chauhan, and Department Head Dr. Maulana Naeem.

The keynote speakers were Dr. Sweta Rathi, Dean, Home Science, Dr. Pooja Tomar, Dean, Basic Science, Dr. Anjali Jakhar, Economics, Dr. Akshay Kumar, Post-Harvest, Dr. Riya Jakhawal, Horticulture, and Dr. Umara Rahmani, Disease and Pest Management. The program attracted 270 participants, 110 of whom were part of the program.

During the training, trainees were periodically examined. Based on the test, Vivek won the first prize, Vikrant Bhardwaj won the second prize, and Zoya Rana won the third prize. Certificates were distributed to all the trainees.

The trainees explained that the Rural Youth Agriculture Skills Development Program benefits rural youth by enhancing their skills, creating employment opportunities, reducing poverty, promoting sustainable farming practices, instilling confidence and leadership, reducing migration from cities, improving food security, and promoting community development. Its goal is to empower rural youth by enhancing their agricultural skills through training, capacity building, and adopting new technologies. It provides infrastructure support, financial literacy, and market linkages to promote self-reliance, reduce unemployment, and boost rural economic development. Regular monitoring ensures continuous improvement in the program's effectiveness.

On this occasion, Mr. Sachin Kumar explained that the Rural Youth Agriculture Skills Development Program is an important initiative aimed at empowering rural youth by enhancing their agricultural knowledge and practical skills. This program focuses on equipping youth with modern farming techniques, sustainable methods, and entrepreneurial skills to improve productivity, income, and overall livelihoods. By fostering innovation and self-reliance among rural youth, this initiative plays a vital role in promoting rural development, reducing unemployment, and ensuring food security. It encourages youth to actively participate in agriculture, making traditional farming a profitable and sustainable livelihood option.

Ms. Meetu explained that the Rural Youth Agriculture Skills Development program aims to empower rural youth by providing them with essential farming knowledge, skills, and competencies. The initiative aims to increase their productivity, sustainability, and income-earning capabilities, thereby contributing to village development, reducing unemployment, and promoting sustainable farming practices. Ultimately, the goal is to create self-reliant and skilled rural youth who can effectively contribute to agricultural growth and rural prosperity.Dr. R.P. Singh welcomed all the guests and trainees.

Dr. Naeem explained that the objective of Rural Skill Development is to enhance the employability and self-reliance of rural people by providing them with essential vocational skills. This initiative aims to promote sustainable livelihood opportunities, reduce poverty, and improve the overall socio-economic status of rural communities. Key objectives include empowering rural youth and women, promoting entrepreneurship, increasing productivity in agriculture and related sectors, and connecting rural populations to the larger economy. Ultimately, the objective of Rural Skill Development is to create a balanced and inclusive development environment that ensures rural areas can effectively contribute to national development.

Dr. Girendra Gautam explained that the purpose of skills is to develop and enhance specific abilities and capabilities that enable individuals to perform work effectively and efficiently. Skills help achieve personal goals, increase productivity, and achieve professional success. They also help in problem solving, ability to adjust in different situations and continuous learning.
